After the First World War, a sports ground in Tuffley Avenue, was laid out by the Wagon Works company, the main sport played on the ground was cricket and Gloucestershire played county cricket there from 1924. The Gloucester Cricket Festival was held at the ground from 1923 until 1992.
The Gloucestershire Constabulary Sports started to be held at the Waggon Works in the early 1920s, the Constabulary sports venue was moved around the county, but roughly every three years, the sports were held at the Gloucester Wagon Works ground. The first Police Sports to be held there was on 29th August 1925, there were open handicap bicycle races over a quarter and one mile and the NCU district half mile championship. The Police sports continued at the Waggon Works for the next thirty years.
The Gloucestershire Constabulary Sports in 1958 had the largest ever entry for the cycling events, there were 76 in the quarter and half mile races and 35 in the three and five miles scratch races. The Bristol centre NCU quarter mile championship race was also held. This was the last bicycle racing at the Waggon Works ground.
In 1961, the Waggon Works Company was acquired by Winget Limited and the ground became known as the Winget ground. Gloucester City Council bought the ground in the mid 1980s and it was then known as Tuffley Park.
